Tropical Shipping Announces Increased Bunker Surcharges

Tropical Shipping, citing increased fuel price volatility, has announced bunker surcharge increases effective Feb. 26, 2012. The hikes will apply to all tariff and service contract shipments, the ocean carrier said, as follows:

Between locations in the Continental United States and Canada and locations in British Virgin Islands Ports, U.S. Virgin Islands Ports, Anguilla, Antigua, Barbados, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Grenada, Guyana, Nevis, St. Barths, St. Kitts, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, St. Vincent or Trinidad.

• 20’ equipment: $440.00.
• 40’ equipment: $880.00.
• Greater than 40’ equipment: $991.00.
• Vehicles not exceeding 700 CFT: $278.00.
• Vehicles exceeding 700 CFT; breakbulk; W/M (ST/FT): $20.70.
• CWT for LCL, per 100 lbs: $1.04.
• CFT for LCL, per CFT: $0.52.
• Barrel, each: $8.08.
• Pallet, each: $40.45.

The same surcharges will apply for cargo moving between Canada and Puerto Rico.

For cargoes moving between the Continental United States or Canada and ports in the Bahamas, the following surcharges will apply:

• 20’ equipment: $220.00.
• 40’ equipment: $440.00.
• Greater than 40’ equipment: $495.00.
• Vehicles not exceeding 700 CFT: $139.00.
• Vehicles exceeding 700 CFT; breakbulk; W/M (ST/FT): $10.36.
• CWT for LCL, per 100 lbs: $0.52.
• CFT for LCL, per CFT: $0.26.
• Barrel, each: $4.04.
• Pallet, each: $20.23.

In addition, Thompson Line will raise bunker surcharges between the Continental United States and Canada and ports in the Cayman Islands to the following levels, effective Feb. 26:

• 20’ equipment: $265.00.
• 40’ equipment: $530.00.
• Greater than 40’ equipment: $596.00.
• Vehicles not exceeding 700 CFT: $169.00.
• Vehicles exceeding 700 CFT; breakbulk; W/M (ST/FT): $12.48.
• CWT for LCL, per 100 lbs: $0.62.
• CFT for LCL, per CFT: $0.31.
• Barrel, each: $4.84.
• Pallet, each: $24.41.
