Caribbean Shipowners Association Announces Tug Service Surcharge for St. Vincent and the Grenadines

Created by HButler on 2/3/2012 4:34:30 PM

Members of the Caribbean Shipowners Association on Feb. 3 announced plans to implement a tug service surcharge for St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The carriers said they are imposing the charge to recoup some of the costs associated by the requirement that tugboats be used by ships entering and departing St. Vincent. The association said that tugboats are not needed for either navigation or safety reasons.

The $90 surcharge per unit of cargo (container or other “lift” import and export) will become effective on March 4, 2012.

Caribbean Shipowners Association members serving St. Vincent are Bernuth, CMA CGM, Crowley, and SeaFreight.
