Shipping Rate, Surcharge Update for Week of Oct. 1-5

Maersk Line plans to hike its rates on westbound trade from the Indian subcontinent to North Europe, starting Nov. 1. The planned increase on dry cargo will be $250 per 20-foot container and $500 per 40-foot container. The subcontinent region includes ports in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The Danish carrier will also apply a $500 per TEU rate hike on dry shipments from Far East Asia (including Japan) to all destinations in North Europe and Mediterranean, effective Nov. 1.
French carrier CMA CGM will raise its rates on westbound trade moving on its Epic service from India to North Europe and the Mediterranean, starting Nov. 1. The planned increase on dry and refrigerated shipments will be $250 per TEU and $500 per 40-foot/high cube container. “In a continued effort to provide reliable and efficient services, CMA CGM Group has decided to restore freight rates from India to North Europe, the Mediterranean, Baltic, Black Sea and North Africa to a sustainable level,” CMA CGM India said.
