Drewry Trans-Pacific Spot Index Holds Firm

Trans-Pacific spot rates paid by non-vessel-operating common carriers held steady for the fourth consecutive week, according to Drewry Shipping Consultants’ latest weekly container rate benchmark.
The index of Hong Kong-to-Los Angeles rates this week stand at $2,711 per 40-foot container, excluding terminal handling charges at the origin port. The index has been at that level since mid-September.
Spot rates remain close to the annual high of $2,880 in the second week of August. The latest index is 82.5 percent above year-ago level of $1,486.
