Shipping and logistics company NYK Line said today it has decided to build four post-Panamax pure car and truck carriers, each with capacities of about 7,000 units, scheduled for completion from 2014 to 2015.

Two of the vessels will be built by Imabari Shipbuilding Co. Ltd at its factory in Marugame in the Kagawa, Japan prefecture, with technical assistance from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. The other two vessels will be built by Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co. Ltd. at its Onishi Shipyard in the Ehime prefecture of Shikoku, Japan.

The energy-saving vessels, part of NYK’s medium-term investment plan “More than Shipping 2013,” are the first PCTCs decided to be built by the company since the collapse of Lehman Brothers in 2008.
