The Port of New Orleans board of commissioners has elected Joe Toomy to be chairman, succeeding Valerie Cahill, whose five-year term as chair expired.
Cahill will continue to serve on the board as commissioner. The board also elected Dan Packer as vice chair and Greg Rusovich as secretary-treasurer.
Toomy is a 24-year veteran of the Louisiana Legislature. He represented District 85 from 1984 to 2008, when he was appointed to the board by Gov. Bobby Jindal in 2009 after being nominated by the Harvey Canal Industrial Association.
