Georgia Ports Authority Unveils Electrified RTGsCreated by HButler on 12/19/2012 12:28:33 AM
The Georgia Ports Authority unveiled its first four electrified rubber-tire gantry cranes, which reduce fuel consumption by an estimated 95 percent.
The GPA is the first in North America to introduce the system. It was developed with the help of partners Konecranes, Conductix-Wampfler and Georgia Power, which provided the cranes, the new power system and the electrical infrastructure, respectively.
Long-term plans include retrofitting the diesel-powered RTG fleet at GPA’s Garden City Terminal, bringing the total number of ERTGs to 169 by 2022, which is expected to save nearly $10 million each year, said Curtis Foltz, GPA executive director.
