LA Port Cargo-Handling Plunged 16 Percent for Month

The Port of Los Angeles reported total cargo volume in November was 582,982 20-foot-equivalent units, dropping 16 percent from 694,109 TEUs in November 2011.

November loaded inbound cargo was 288,274 TEUs, plummeting 19 percent from last year; and loaded outbound cargo was 145,344 TEUs, tumbling 26 percent from 2011.

Total loaded cargo in November fell 21 percent year-over-year to 433,618 TEUs, while total empty cargo rose 4 percent to 149,364 TEUs.

From January to November, the port handled 7.5 million TEUs, up 3 percent from 7.3 million TEUs during the same period last year.
