The Tampa Port Authority in Florida reported at its annual State of the Port luncheon that port tonnage for fiscal year 2012 was 34 million tons, down 1 percent year-over-year.
General cargo at the Port of Tampa was 1.2 million tons, jumping 20 percent compared with 2011, led by increases in containers, steel and heavy equipment.
Major capital projects included completion of the Tampa Gateway Rail Terminal and creation of new land for the construction of additional berths.
The TPA also highlighted new business developments, including Mediterranean Shipping Co.’s recent container service launch, operated in partnership with Zim Integrated Shipping Services.
