CMA CGM has expanded its Swahili Express 2 (SWAX2) service between the Middle East and East Africa with a direct call at the Port of Hazira, India.
The additional port call took effect with the arrival of vessel Julie Delmas at Adani Hazira Container Terminal, a new private facility, on Dec. 24.
The French carrier operates the fixed-day weekly service in conjunction with Emirates Shipping Line. The SWAX2 service, now renamed Kenya Express, deploys five vessels, ranging in capacity from 2,200 to 2,500 20-foot-equivalent units, with CMA CGM providing four ships and Emirates providing one.
The revised port rotation is Jebel Ali, Khor Fakkan, Mombasa, Zanzibar, Hazira and back to Jebel Ali, offering a 42-day round-trip voyage.
Hazira Port, about 120 nautical miles north of Jawaharlal Nehru Port (Nhava Sheva), began container operations in August this year. Built by Adani Group, the terminal has a total quay length of 2,099 feet, a 42-foot draft and four quay cranes, providing for an annual capacity of nearly 1 million TEUs.
