Port Newark Container Terminal Details Expansion PlanCreated by HButler on 1/15/2013 5:32:34 PM
The Port Newark Container Terminal said it is investing $500 million to expand its capacity to handle the increase in vessel traffic it anticipates after the Panama Canal opens its new locks in 2015.
The infrastructure investment includes the 80-acre expansion of its container yard, which is already under way. The terminal plans to buy a new, more environmentally friendly fleet of 30-foot straddle carriers, and three new super-post-Panamax ship-to-shore gantry cranes that can carry two 20‐foot-long containers simultaneously, with a rated lifting capacity of 65 tons.
