Tulsa Port of Catoosa’s 2012 Shipping Volume Set RecordCreated by HButler on 1/22/2013 6:31:06 PM
The Tulsa Port of Catoosa, Okla., reported shipping volume of 2.7 million tons for 2012, beating the previous record of 2.4 million tons set in 1998.
The port’s cargo reached an all-time high despite lower-than-average shipping totals in December caused by drought and low water conditions on inland river systems.
The port’s shipping volume in December 2012 was 147,536 tons, falling because of slowed barge traffic in November and December on the McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System, which is an inland water system originating at the Tulsa Port of Catoosa that runs southeast through Oklahoma and Arkansas to the Mississippi River.
Total shipping for the navigation system in 2012 was nearly 12 million tons. For December, it was 723,809 tons.
