The Port of Virginia handled 158,766 20-foot-equivalent units in January, increasing 4,466 TEUs or 2.9 percent from 154,300 in January 2012.
The month’s container total was 90,900 units, and the general cargo tonnage (including container and breakbulk) was 1.4 million tons.
Rail volume was also up 10 percent for the month, said Rodney W. Oliver, the Virginia Port Authority’s interim executive director, in a written statement.
