Samskip Introduces a Fixed-Day Weekly Service Between Rotterdam and the West Coast of Norway

Samskip has announced an extension of its existing service to and from Norway. Later this month, the carrier will introduce weekly fixed-day service between Rotterdam and ports on the west coast of Norway: Alesund, Bergen, Haugesund, and Stavanger.

Caesar Luikenaar, Route Manager Norway Services at Samskip Multimodal Container Logistics, noted that the expansion was logical in light of the company's established service to the Olsofjord. He said it will offer a cost-competitive alternative to overland transit from that region to the west coast cities, with reduced transit times as well.

In Rotterdam, the service will call at both the RST and ECT terminals. Connections will be offered there to Samskip's other multimodal and shortsea services to the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, and Italy, and also onward into the Benelux region, France, and Germany.

“We have already started this service on a bi-weekly basis in June, but from the end of August we will be offering departures on a weekly basis to cater for increased demand during the fish season," Luikenaar said. "Together with Frigocare (our coldstore in Alesund) and our partner Coolboxx, we will offer both 40 ft. and 45 ft. reefer units, which are ideal for fish and other fresh commodities.”
