Tanker

Tankers are bulk carriers designed to transport liquid cargo of various kinds; most are used to transport petroleum products (Transportation Institute). There are various types, including chemical tankers, chemical/products tankers, and LNG tankers. A hybrid type, the general cargo/tanker, is "a general cargo ship fitted with tanks for the additional carriage of liquid cargo" (IHS/Fairplay). Because tankers generally do not operate on regular schedules, relatively few appear in the JOC Sailings vessel directory. For other types of bulkers, see bulk carriers.
